Answer-engine visibilityAI search and answer engine optimization for audiologists

Being the practice an assistant names when someone asks it who to see.

The problem

A patient asks an assistant who the best audiologist near them is. It names three practices. There is no second page to be on, and nobody at the practice knows whether they were one of the three.

The shortlist has three slots and no scroll

Classic search failure is gentle: you are on page two, some traffic still arrives, the loss is gradual. Assistant failure is total. Either you are named or the conversation ends without you, and the patient has no sense that a list existed at all.

That changes what optimisation means. Ranking eleventh has no analogue here. The work is binary and it has to be measured that way.

What assistants actually lean on

Related to search, not identical to it. In this category the differences that matter are:

  • Entity consistency — the practice, its locations and each provider resolving to one unambiguous thing across every source
  • Corroboration from places that are not you: professional associations, licensing bodies, directories, local press
  • Statements of fact that can be lifted whole, without hedging, qualifying clauses or marketing language wrapped around them
  • Pages that answer the question as asked rather than targeting the keyword the question contains
  • Reviews, which assistants read and summarise more directly than search results ever did

Tracking it properly

We build a fixed prompt set from the questions patients actually ask — not keyword variants, real sentences — and run it on a schedule against the major assistants. Fixed, because the value is in comparison over time and a set that drifts tells you nothing.

The monthly read is simple: which assistants named you, which named a chain, which named a directory, and what changed. It is the one report in this field where the number is genuinely binary and therefore genuinely honest.

The overlap with everything else

Most of what helps here helps classic search too, which is why this is not sold as a separate product. Entity work improves local ranking. Answer-shaped content earns featured placements. Corroboration is what a link has always been. The difference is in what gets measured and in a handful of writing decisions, not in a second budget.

Questions about this piece

Is this just SEO with a new name?

Substantially yes, and anyone telling you it is an entirely new discipline is selling a second retainer. The genuinely different parts are that measurement is binary, that corroboration matters more than links, and that hedged marketing prose is actively penalised because it cannot be quoted.

Can you guarantee we get named?

No. Assistant behaviour changes without notice and no one controls it. What is controllable is being the most consistently described, best corroborated practice in the catchment, which is what determines the odds.

How many prompts do you track?

Twenty on a single-practice engagement, fifty across catchments for multi-location. Fixed sets, so the month-over-month comparison means something.
